Abamectin is a mixture of avermectins containing > 80% avermectin B1a and < 20% avermectin B1b

*Abamectin is a mixture of avermectins containing more than 80% avermectin B1a and less than 20% avermectin B1b. These two components share very similar biological and toxicological characteristics. Avermectins are insecticidal and anthelmintic compounds derived from the soil microorganism Streptomyces avermitilis, and Abamectin is produced as a natural fermentation product of this bacterium.

*Abamectin is widely used to control a broad spectrum of insect and mite pests in agronomic, fruit, vegetable, and ornamental crops. It is also applied in household settings for fire ant control. A closely related avermectin compound, ivermectin, is used at doses of 50–200 µg/kg in the World Health Organization's onchocerciasis (river blindness) treatment programs, demonstrating the well-established toxicological profile of this family of compounds.

Mode of Action:  

Abamectin attacks the nerve system of insects and mites, causing paralysis within hours. The paralysis can not be reversed.Abamectin is active once eaten (stomach poison) although there is some contact activity. Maximum mortality occurs in 3-4 days.

*Application Timing:  
For optimum control, apply Abamectin when the leaves are young to allow better absorption into leaf tissue. This will extend the residual control period. As leaves age and harden off they lose the ability to take up Abamectin and residual control is greatly reduced.
